The Oyo State House of Assembly on Wednesday, confirmed the appointment of Mrs Iyabo Yerima as the substantive Chief Judge (CJ) of the State.

Justice Yerima had been sworn-in on January 16, 2023, by Governor Seyi Makinde as acting CJ following the retirement of Justice Munta Ladipo Abimbola.

The confirmation, at the plenary, came following the recommendation of the House Committee on Public Petitions and Judiciary, which found her confirmable.

The Assembly, which was presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Abiodun Fadeyi, confirmed Yerima, as many lawmakers extolled her virtues and pedigree.

Speaking, the newly-confirmed CJ vowed to restore the glory of Oyo State Judiciary and make it the pride of the West and Africa in general, noting that there would be a paradigm shift in the dispensation of justice in the state.

Yerima stated: ‘‘I have passion, dreams and hope for a new Judiciary in Oyo State. There will be a new Oyo State Judiciary in terms of digitalisation, infrastructure, justice delivery and so many other things.

“I will restore the glory of Oyo State Judiciary as the pride of the West and Africa as it used to be in the 60s,” the Chief Judge affirmed.
