Nigerian opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that it will formally inaugurate the 2025 National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC).

The Party says the committee will oversee the party’s elective national convention where a new leadership is expected to emerge in preparation for the 2027 general election.

In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP explained that the inauguration of the committee follows the approval of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and ratification by the National Working Committee (NWC).

According to the statement, the 110-member committee will be chaired by Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, while the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, will serve as Vice Chairman and  Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has been named Secretary.

The PDP emphasised that the inauguration of the NCOC was a critical step in ensuring a smooth, transparent, and credible national convention.

The convention, which is scheduled to hold in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, from Saturday, November 15 to Sunday, November 16, 2025, is expected to produce new national officers who will lead the party into the next electoral cycle.

Party leaders say the 2025 convention is particularly significant as it will set the tone for PDP’s preparations towards reclaiming power at the federal level in 2027.

With the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) also gearing up for the next election cycle, the PDP is under pressure to present a united front, resolve internal disagreements, and strengthen its structures across the country.

The NWC therefore charged all party leaders, stakeholders, and members nationwide to remain committed to the ideals of the PDP and work collectively to ensure the success of the convention.

“The PDP must demonstrate unity, focus, and organizational capacity as we move towards 2027,” the statement noted.

Political observers believe the convention will be a litmus test for the party’s internal democracy, especially as issues of zoning, leadership balance, and candidate selection continue to dominate national conversations ahead of the 2027 polls.
