The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says all is now set for its long-awaited National Convention scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State, on 15th and 16th November 2025.

Briefing journalists in Abuja, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Debo Ologunagba, explained that the PDP had been working tirelessly to ensure that the convention would not only be credible but also inclusive and transparent.

According to him, the party views the exercise as a historic opportunity to reposition itself and strengthen internal democracy ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Ologunagba disclosed that the National Working Committee (NWC), in conjunction with other organs of the party, had held extensive consultations with stakeholders across the six geo-political zones.

He noted that deadlines for the return of completed nomination forms and screening of aspirants were deliberately extended to encourage broad participation, reduce rancour, and build consensus around the process.

The party has also constituted 15 subcommittees charged with the responsibility of handling key areas of the convention.

These include screening, accreditation, security, transportation, accommodation, welfare, publicity, venue management, protocol, and constitutional review.

Each subcommittee, he said, had been carefully composed to reflect the national spread of the PDP and to ensure efficiency in their respective assignments.

On state congresses, Ologunagba reported that the party had successfully conducted exercises in Lagos, Oyo, Ondo, Edo, Adamawa, Borno, Niger, and Kogi States.

He admitted that congresses in Cross River, Plateau, and Kebbi were rescheduled following fresh consultations and logistical considerations.

“In the meantime, interim arrangements have been made to forestall any leadership vacuum in those states pending the conclusion of congresses,” he noted.

The PDP spokesman also used the occasion to restate the party’s respect for due process and judicial pronouncements.

He cited the example of Ekiti State, where repeat congresses have been fixed for 30th September and 1st October 2025 in compliance with subsisting court orders.

“This demonstrates the PDP’s unwavering commitment to the rule of law and to providing a level playing ground for all members,” he stressed.

On efforts to promote inclusivity, Ologunagba revealed that women aspirants would only be required to pay for the expression-of-interest forms while being exempted from purchasing nomination forms.

This, he said, aligns with the PDP’s long-standing tradition of encouraging female participation in politics.

The screening of aspirants vying for national positions has been scheduled for 2nd October 2025 at the NCOC Conference Hall in Abuja, after which cleared aspirants will proceed to campaign and mobilise delegates ahead of the convention.

Concluding, Ologunagba expressed optimism that the Ibadan convention would go down in history as one of the most peaceful and successful gatherings of the PDP.

“The train for our National Convention has arrived in Ibadan, and we are fully on track to deliver an event that will strengthen our unity, showcase our values, and prepare us for future electoral contests,” he assured.
