Voting is ongoing across Gombe State, as the three major contestants for the Governorship seat, the All Progressives Congress, the New Nigeria People’s Party and the People’s Democratic Party have all cast their votes.
The Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, told journalists after casting his vote at his polling unit at the Government Science Secondary School, Jekadafari, Gombe that the process is smooth and peaceful.
He commended the electorates for the high turnout and coordination during the election.
Governor Yahaya said “the turnout was impressive, based on the reports being received from parts of the State.”
Meanwhile, the Governorship Candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Mr Khamisu Mailantarki, after casting his vote at the Usman Carpenter, Unguwan Herwagana, appreciated the efforts of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for improving the quality of the election process.
He said; “We hope it happens everywhere across the state. Like I have seen it here. With this development, I expect that the peaceful nature of Gombe should be maintained.”
Also, the Governorship Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Mr Danbarde told journalists at the Usman Memorial Unit, Unguwan Dawakib that he was satisfied with the process.
He said he hoped the people would vote for his party, the PDP, to bring about the needed development in the state.
Vote sorting is not expected till around 6pm, local time because of the high number of voters at most of the units.
