The Nigerian Senate has once again confirmed its agenda for the New Year, noting that the petroleum industry bill (PIB), remains a top priority.

President of the Senate Ahmad Lawan who stated this on Tuesday, also acknowledged that the present government has no excuse to do well irrespective of the challenging times it found itself.

According to him, Nigerians are facing very tough and difficult times but it is in such situations that leaders distinguish themselves.

Senator Lawan expressed optimism that the PIB, when passed and signed into Law, would turnaround the unpleasant situation currently hitting hard on the economy.

“We promised Nigerians that we are going to achieve this before the end of this 2021 by the Grace of God”, he emphasised.

He believes that the actions taken by the National Assembly on the budget, will soon begin to yield the desired results especially in the area of revamping the economy.

NO MORE EXCUSSES

The President of the Senate further reaffirmed the commitment of the 9th National Assembly to serving the interest of Nigerians in line with its agenda set out in 2019.

“It is absolutely necessary and incumbent on us as leaders today, to always apply ourselves fully to address the various challenges facing Nigerians but it’s not easy”.

“Leadership is not the same as 2+2=4, because it’s not easy. And sometimes when you are outside of a system, you think people are not performing but when you get in, then you discover that it is beyond that arithmetic but there should be no excesses.”

Senator Lawan who was marking his 62nd birthday, also appreciated Nigerians for their criticism of the National Assembly, urging them to look inward and see what the present Lawmakers are doing differently.
