The Ministry of Petroleum Resources has inaugurated its Plan Implementation Committee to drive preparations for the National Development Plan (NDP) 2026–2030.
The ceremony in Abuja followed the Nigerian Government’s directive to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to begin early preparations for a smooth transition from the current NDP (2021–2025).
Speaking at the inauguration, the Permanent Secretary, Emeka Vitalis Obi, represented by the Director of Midstream and Downstream, Mohammed Abubakar, described the initiative as both timely and crucial.

He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to aligning with national priorities, emphasising the petroleum sector’s role in generating revenue, earning foreign exchange, and ensuring energy security.
Obi said the Committee would serve as the “engine room” for continuity and alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda and the Nigeria Agenda 2050. He urged members to discharge their duties with diligence, patriotism, and innovation to produce a robust and people-centred plan.

The Implementation Committee, chaired by Obi with Usman Abdulkadir as Co-Chairman, includes senior officials of the Ministry, alongside representatives from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), and the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA).
In his goodwill message, the Director of Plans and Projects Development at the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, Kenneth Kwujeli, underscored the importance of the oil and gas sector to the NDP 2026–2030. He urged members to produce a plan that would usher in a new budget framework with direct, positive, and far-reaching impacts on Nigerians.
Earlier, the Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, Abdulkadir, explained that with the current plan set to wind down this year, the successor plan was necessary to sustain national momentum and build on the gains already recorded.
