Police, NDLEA recapture more Kuje inmates

The Nigerian Police Command in Niger State North Central Nigeria, has confirmed the arrest of a fleeing prisoner of the Kuje correctional Centre in Suleja area of the State, following an attack on the facility by insurgents last week in Abuja.

The Commissioner of Police in Niger State. CP Monday Bala Kuryas who stated this on Monday through DSP Wasiu Abiodun the spokesperson of the command said; “Police operatives attached to ‘A’ Div Suleja while on patrol around general hospital Suleja down to Bakasi area of Suleja, based on credible intelligence,  stormed an identified compound and arrested one Kazeem Murtala aged 54yrs.

“During interrogation, the inmate confessed that he escaped from Kuje Custodial Center during the attack where he was serving jail term for the past 2 years ,after conviction for an offense he committed,added DSP Wasiu.

Mr. Kuryas commended the effort of the patrol team and directed that the inmate should be transferred to the custodial center which has been complied with, without any delay.

The CP equally appreciated members of the public for giving such intelligence to the Police while he urged them to sustain such effort towards fighting crime and criminality in the state.

Meanwhile, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have also arrested one of the wanted terror suspects who escaped from the Correctional Centre in Kuje.

The agency’s spokesperson, Mr. Femi Babafemi disclosed this in a press statement in the Nation’s Capital.

He said, the fleeing terror suspect, Suleiman Sidi, was arrested in the early hours of Monday 11th July at Area 1 motor-park, in the Federal Capital Territory while attempting to board a commercial vehicle to Maiduguri, Borno state, North East Nigeria.

“When he was searched, three wraps of cannabis sativa were found on him.”

During preliminary interview, the wanted terror suspect confirmed he was remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre for terrorism and robbery charges, adding that he was indeed one of the inmates who escaped from the facility last Tuesday.
