The Nigeria Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has emphasised the importance of moral values and community collaboration in crime prevention across Abuja and Nigeria at large.
The Commissioner of Police in the Territory, CP Adewale Ajao, made the call during a stakeholder meeting with the theme;“You Against Crime” in Abuja.
He said “communities must work closely with security agencies to tackle crime and criminality effectively.”
CP Ajao reiterated that combating insecurity requires joint efforts to build a crime-free society. He appealed to residents of the FCT and beyond to instil moral values as a sustainable way of curbing criminality.
The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of You Against Crime (YACI), Tayo Folorunsho, also stressed the importance of youth engagement in crime prevention through the promotion of local values and cultural practices.
With over 15 years of experience working with young people and communities, Folorunsho described YACI as a lifelong commitment to mentorship, empowerment, and opportunity creation.
He explained that one of the group’s core strategies is to use culture as a tool to reconnect with traditional values, languages, and heritage, promoting discipline, respect, and responsibility.
Other stakeholders echoed similar views, noting that “community and family values remain the foundation for effective crime prevention in Nigeria.”
