The Presidency has dismissed attempts by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to blame President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the party’s current crisis, insisting that the opposition party’s troubles are self-inflicted.

Reacting in a post on his X handle, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi said that neither President Tinubu nor the APC initiated the legal action now troubling the party.

He argued that the ADC’s predicament could have been avoided through proper internal management and due diligence.

“ADC people should know that it was not President Tinubu and the APC government that went to court. Simple due diligence and better management of internal issues would have averted this mess,” Ajayi stated.

Ajayi’s response followed fresh accusations by the ADC that the Nigerian Government was working to destabilise the party amid its worsening leadership dispute.

He maintained that the party’s crisis stemmed from its inability to resolve internal disagreements, warning that shifting blame to external actors would not solve the problem.

The controversy comes on the heels of the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to suspend recognition of all leadership factions within the ADC, following a Court of Appeal directive ordering parties to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the substantive suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

INEC also said it would refrain from engaging with any of the contending factions until the matter is resolved.
