President Buhari invests N1.7trillion in tertiary institutions in 5years – Minister

The five and a half years of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration have witnessed a total investment of N1.7 trillion in the Tertiary Institutions.

This is aside from the sum of N395bn committed to the development of infrastructure by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund TETFUND across tertiary institutions.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu made this known in Abuja during the 2020 Annual Ministerial Briefing.

Adamu also said universities took two third of the total sum.

According to the Minister, ” in the history of Nigeria, no administration has invested this quantum of money in our tertiary institutions”

The Minister regretted the almost one year industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, stressing that all was set for the federal government to intensify the renegotiation of the 2009/2010 agreement.

The memorandum of understanding and memorandum of actions with a view to bringing all negotiations to a successful completion in 2021″

Acknowledging that public tertiary institutions had been run without visitation panels for about 10years, Adamu hinted that the government has decided to reconstitute new visitation panels.

On establishment of new institutions in 2021, Adamu disclosed that 2 Federal polytechnics would be established in Borno and Benue States while the take off dates for the institutions would be October 2021.
