President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received the victorious 10-time Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions, Nigeria’s Super Falcons, at the State House, Abuja.
President Tinubu received the Super Falcons on Monday at the forecourt of the Presidential Villa, alongside the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Senator Abdul Ningi; Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, amongst other top government officials.

The Nigerian Senior Women’s National football team, who clinched a hard-fought 3–2 win against their Moroccan counterparts, the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco, arrived at the forecourt of the Presidential villa at 4:35 pm to present their 10th WAFCON trophy to the President.
The reception fulfilled a post-match promise made by President Tinubu during a video call with team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, her teammates, and Nigerian officials.

The President, during the Saturday video call, praised Rasheedat Ajibade, who emerged as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and clinched the Woman of the Tournament award.
President Tinubu’s welcome of the Super Falcons underscores his administration’s renewed dedication to advancing sports development and supporting the welfare of Nigerian athletes.
The Super Falcons’ visit to the Villa is part of a series of celebrations and official engagements in the lineup to honour the team for their outstanding performance, which has reignited the nation’s pride in sports dominance on the continental stage.
The Nigerian Women’s National Football Team’s win from a 2-0 halftime shortfall against the host nation, Morocco, to win 3-2 in the final showcased extraordinary mental toughness, strategic adjustments, and team spirit.
The Super Falcon’s 2024 WAFCON victory represents a historic milestone that transcends sport for Nigeria, strengthening the nation’s dominance in African women’s football while fostering national unity, advancing women’s empowerment, and inspiring the next generation.
It would be recalled that the record champions, the Nigerian Super Falcons, overturned a two-goal deficit to beat hosts Morocco 3-2 in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations at Rabat’s Olympic Stadium, clinching their 10th continental title.
Over the past 10 years, the Super Falcons have won four Women’s Africa Cup of Nations titles in 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2024, bringing their total to 10.
