President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Retired.) as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence, marking a decisive move in the administration’s ongoing security reforms.
The President administered the oath of office on General Musa in his office at the State House, Abuja, indicating General Musa’s transition to the nation’s principal defence policy custodian.
The Nigerian Leader described General Musa as a “fine gentleman” whose track record in service positions him to drive a more integrated national security response.

The new Defence Minister’s appointment comes less than 48 hours after the resignation of his predecessor, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar.
General Musa, 58, served as Chief of Defence Staff from 2023 to October 2025, during which he oversaw broad counterterrorism operations and inter-agency coordination efforts. His nomination was transmitted to the Senate only two days earlier and was swiftly confirmed, a development President Tinubu praised as evidence of legislative support for his security vision.

With the swearing-in now complete, General Musa assumes full ministerial duties as the Tinubu administration pushes to consolidate recent gains and accelerate reforms to deliver lasting peace and national stability.
