President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged eligible voters in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kano and Rivers states to participate in Saturday’s elections without fear, calling on political actors to shun violence and inflammatory conduct.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu commended residents of the FCT, Kano and Rivers for their civic consciousness, expressing confidence that the elections will reflect the will of the people and deepen democratic governance.
The President tasked security agencies to act with restraint and professionalism to safeguard the credibility of the process.
President Tinubu also appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take all necessary measures to boost public confidence in the polls through timely accreditation, seamless voting procedures, accurate collation and prompt transmission of results in line with the Electoral Act 2026.
The President called on voters, security agencies and electoral officials to conduct themselves in an orderly manner, stressing that democracy thrives best in an atmosphere of calm, tolerance and mutual respect.
He appealed to political parties, candidates and their supporters to avoid violence, hate speech and actions capable of undermining the integrity of the electoral process.
President Tinubu further cautioned security personnel against high-handedness and intimidation, emphasising that their constitutional role is to protect lives and property, safeguard voters and preserve the sanctity of the ballot.
He assured Nigerians that his administration will continue to support institutions charged with delivering free, fair and credible elections, noting that credible polls remain central to strengthening the nation’s democratic journey.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, will conduct elections in the six area councils of the FCT, as well as bye-elections in the Ahoada East II and Khana II State constituencies of Rivers State, and in the Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies of Kano State.
