“Put actions to aspirations” – Ekiti State Governor urges Nigerian Youths

The Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi has urged Nigerian Youths to put their aspirations into actions in order to be fully and equally represented in leadership positions in the country. 

Governor Fayemi who was represented by Mr Makinde Araoye as the Chairman during the 2021 National Youth Summit held in Abuja, the nation’s capital said that Nigerian Youths had a long way to go.

The event which was organised by the Nigerian Youth Congress with the theme, “Mainstreaming the Youth in national development agenda as a Strategic Tool for Youth Empowerment” had Youth delegates from the various state in the country were all represented at the event.

The programme which is aimed at addressing the wide margin of disintegration between the governed and the government seeks to enlighten the youths on leadership, sensitize them on their rights and address the challenges confronting the youths of the country.

According to the President of the Youth Congress Blessing Akinlosotu, the summit intends to get the youths fully involved in the government.

Akinlosotu saith that although 65 to 70 per cent of the country population were youths, they are not fairly and fully represented in the decision-making process.

He said that the place of youths cannot be taken or replaced.

“A hardworking and creative youth population like ours will develop speedily if it realises its potentials and harnessed the betterment of its present and future to come, he said.

He also said that there were no proper opportunities for the youths, no social amenities for them and therefore urged the government to provide an enabling environment for the youths to bring out their best.

Also speaking at the event, the Secretary-General of the NYC, Dr Edor Ramond said, the youths have been left behind.

The aim of the summit is to train Nigerian Youths on health, consulting and leadership skills across the federation.

He further said that they will engage the state governors on issues of insecurity bewildering the country.

At end of the summit, the youths were advised to raise up and be committed to the agenda of Nigerian Youth Mainstreaming in the national development agenda to strengthen the country.
