Russia launched a massive overnight barrage of drones and missiles on Ukraine on Saturday, targeting energy and railway infrastructure across the country.
The Ukrainian officials said the attacks left at least 10 people dead, including two children, in the northeastern city of Kharkiv.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy reported that Russia fired 480 drones and 29 missiles, describing the strikes as “savage attacks against life.”
He urged international partners to continue providing air defence support and weapons to help protect Ukraine’s residential and critical infrastructure.
Ukrainian Air defence units intercepted 453 drones and 19 missiles. However, nine missiles and 26 attack drones struck 22 sites across the country.
Kharkiv was among the cities hit, where a Russian ballistic missile destroyed a five-storey residential building. Mayor Ihor Terekhov confirmed that 10 people, including two children, were killed.
A resident, Hanna, described the horror saying “When we arrived here 20 minutes after the explosion, I thought I was going to have a stroke. I couldn’t string two words together, and my legs were buckling. It was ordinary people who lived there. What were they targeting?”
Russia’s Defence Ministry said “its forces carried out overnight strikes on Ukrainian military-industrial complexes, military airfields, and energy facilities.”
