Samuel Chukwueze Stars In Villarreal’s Europa League Victory
Nigerian International Samuel Chukwueze featured in Villarreal’s 1-0 away victory against Croatian Champions Dinamo Zagreb in the first leg of its UEFA Europa League last-eight tie at the Maksimir Stadium on Thursday.
Chukwueze was among the starters picked by coach Unai Emery for the game alongside Gerard Moreno and Carlos Bacca.
Villarreal were awarded a penalty after Kevin Zagreb’s Theophile-Catherine handled the ball in the penalty area and Spanish forward Gerard Moreno stepped up and calmly slotted the ball into the net in the 44th minute.
Samuel Chukwueze almost doubled his side’s advantage in the second half as he directed a shot on target, but Dinamo Zagreb goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic saved it.
Samuel Chukwueze who was lively all night was later substituted, with Moi Gomez in the 69th minute.
The victory gives the Spanish La Liga side an advantage ahead of the return leg in Spain next week.
