The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Adebola Hamzat, has commended Governor Seyi Makinde for setting a record of providing support for the security architecture in the state, in his bid to protect citizens and residents.

A statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, says Hamzat gave the commendation while playing host to Oyelade, who was at the Eleyele Police Command, Ibadan, on a fact-finding courtesy call.

The Police Commissioner highlighted what he described as the invaluable support provided by Governor Makinde in strengthening the security architecture in the state through the donation of over 120 vehicles, provision of modern day communication gadgets, and personal motivation for the officers and men of the command.

According to the Police boss, the modern day gadgets procured for the police by the governor has enabled him and other senior colleagues to monitor happenings in the state from any part of the federation, agreeing with Prince Oyelade that none of the eight states where he had served as commissioner is as peaceful as Oyo State.

He noted that community policing has been highly successful in combating crime in Oyo State because the governor gives policemen extra incentives and motivation, apart from their regular salaries, while the populace is generally happy to cooperate with the police.

Hamzat therefore urged residents of the state to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, by calling the emergency number 615, in case of emergency.

He noted that the current administration in Oyo State is in the good books of police hierarchy throughout Nigeria because of the successful hosting of over 4,000 policemen during the 2024 Police Games which held in Ibadan earlier in the year.

Speaking earlier, the state Commissioner of Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, said from research, no state government in the federation has done more for the protection of its citizens than Governor Makinde, noting that the feat accounts for why Oyo State remains one of the safest states in the country today.

Oyelade stated that apart from other infrastructure that are being put in place, the atmosphere of peace is also rubbing off positively on the commerce and economic development of Oyo State.
