Senate President visits injured soldiers, advocates more funding for the Army

The Senate President, Dr Ahmad Lawan visited wounded in action officers and soldiers and pledged for adequate funding for the Armed forces to carry out their duties effectively.

Lawan made the pledge when he led other members of the National Assembly to 44 Army Reference Hospital Kaduna to visit wounded in action officers and soldiers as part of activities marking the second anniversary of the 9th Assembly.

According to him, the sympathy visit was part of the activities to mark the second anniversary of the ninth Senate.

He pledged to provide the Armed forces with the basic necessities needed to carry out its duties effectively.

The Senate President said the visit was also to show compassion and empathy to the affected victims, as well as to assess first hand, the needs of the military.

Lawan advocated for the provision of more resources to cater the needs of the wounded in action officers and soldiers, stressing that the reflection of any military in the World depends on the investment of its Country.

He assured that the National Assembly would expeditiously treat the Armed forces supplementary budget request as soon as it resumes from the anniversary recess, promising that, next year’s appropriation would provide more resources for the Armed forces.

The Senate President therefore appealed to the Armed forces to prioritize investments in hospitals by giving the wounded soldiers the best treatment so as to motivate their colleagues in the frontline.

Senator Lawan commended the Armed forces in its effort at securing the territorial integrity of Nigeria and urged it to sustain the tempo.

In his remark, General Officer Commanding One Division Kaduna, Major General Danjuma Ali-Keffi commended the Senate President for the visit, describing it as symbolic.

Also, the Acting Chief Medical Director, CMD, 44 Army Reference Hospital Col. Steven Onuchukwu said the visit would serve as a moral booster to the wounded officer.

Amongst the entourage of the Senate President include, Majority leader Senator Yahaya Abdulllahi, the Chief whip Dr Orji Uzo Kalu, Senator Danjuma Laah and Senator Abdu Kwari.
