The Nigerian Government has reaffirmed its commitment to unlocking the country’s natural and human resource potential through increased investment and modern technologies to drive sustainable economic development.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, stated this in Kaduna during a two-day interactive session on government-citizen engagement organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation.

“Assessing Electoral Promises: Fostering Government-Citizen Engagement for National Unity” was the theme of the event, which brought together key appointees of President Tinubu from Northern Nigeria.

Leading the government delegation, Senator Akume said President Tinubu’s vision is focused on stimulating inclusive economic growth and ensuring environmental sustainability.

“The economic reform strategy is designed to create a robust, diversified, and resilient economy by fostering an environment conducive to investment and innovation. The administration aims to stimulate growth across all sectors, reduce unemployment, and ensure equitable wealth distribution,” he said.

He added that infrastructure expansion remains a key priority of the President Tinubu administration.

“The administration is strongly committed to expanding Nigeria’s infrastructure and transportation networks to improve connectivity and accessibility. This will help boost economic activities, create jobs, and enhance the quality of life for citizens,” Akume explained.

He also disclosed plans to revive the once-vibrant Kaduna Textile and other industrial centres in Northern Nigeria as part of broader economic diversification efforts.

“President Tinubu is working in about eight different areas to ensure Nigeria experiences holistic development across all spheres. His administration intends to industrialise the country through diversification. We are looking back at the days of Kaduna Textile and other industrial hubs in the North. We plan to revisit those good old days to further boost and solidify the country’s economy through industrialisation,” he said.

Akume stated that after just over two years in office, President Tinubu has already recorded significant milestones and remains committed to building a responsive, accountable, and effective governance model.

He also highlighted Nigeria’s renewed global standing under the current administration.

“Foreign policy and diplomacy. President Tinubu’s Africa-centred foreign policy and active engagement with ECOWAS and the African Union have restored Nigeria’s leadership role on the continent. His participation in the G20 and UN General Assembly emphasised Nigeria’s openness to global partnerships, diaspora engagement, and trade diplomacy. The last year alone, diaspora remittance to Nigeria was $22 trillion. Recently, he attended the BRICS summits, which signifies Nigeria’s readiness to be a player in emerging world order. Infrastructure development,” he added.

Senator Akume further called on Northern leaders to seek peaceful resolutions to the farmers-herders conflict through dialogue and community-driven engagement at forums like the interactive session.

The event was attended by Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; Minister of Women Affairs, Imaam Suleiman-Ibrahim; Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; and several other dignitaries from Northern Nigeria.
