South West PDP leadership: Oyo Governor pleads for peaceful resolution
Olubunmi Osoteku, Ibadan
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has urged leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the South West to allow peace to reign, as that remains the only way the party could regain its lost grounds in the politics of the country.
The Governor made the plea, on Sunday, when the leaders of the Ondo State PDP, visited him at the Government House in Agodi, Ibadan, the state’s capital.
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Makinde, Mr Taiwo Adisa, the Governor told the delegation from Ondo State that the party would continue to seek peace in the South West zone because it is pivotal to the progress and stability of the country.
Makinde equally urged the aggrieved parties in Ekiti and other states of the Southwest to sheath their swords and give peace a chance as, according to him, the situation would soon be resolved.
“We will continue to appeal to the few of our colleagues that are disgruntled to let peace reign. Quite frankly, it is only God that can put anyone in a position of authority. Basically, what we said is that our members should go back to their states and continue to reach out to those who are not happy or who are aggrieved,” the Governor stated.
While speaking on the crisis in the Ekiti State Chapter of the PDP, Governor Makinde urged the two warring factions to give peace a chance, noting that the issue is not as bad as it is being projected in the media.
“Yes, within a family, you have disagreements, which is what we are having right now and we will solve it the PDP way very soon,” he explained.
The Ondo State PDP Chairman, Mr Fatai Adams, disclosed that the Ondo State Chapter of the Party was in Oyo State to appreciate Governor Makinde for his support during the last governorship election in Ondo State.
He noted that members of the Party in Ondo State recognised Makinde as the Southwest PDP leader and would give him all the necessary support to reposition the party.
“We are here on a solidarity visit to let the whole world know that we, PDP members in Ondo State, recognise him as our leader in the Southwest and we are ready to give him all the necessary support,” he said.
While fielding questions from journalists on the issue of the Senator representing Ondo South, Nicholas Tofowomo and Chief Eddy Olafeso, Adams responded that the PDP is one and is intact in Ondo State, explaining that the National Working Committee of the PDP has summoned the Senator and he has cleared himself.
He said that Olafeso must sit with the leadership of the PDP in Ondo State so that everyone could be on the same page, adding that the Ondo State PDP had on December 12, 2020, agreed on the zoning formula.
