Subsidy Removal: Kogi Assembly Counts On Governor For Palliatives

Kogi State House of Assembly has appealed to the governor To cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal on the indigenes, during its plenary session held on Thursday 3rd August.

While speaking at the Chambers the Speaker Aliyu Umar Yusuf decried the hardship been faced by the people but has encouraged them to hold on a little more declaring that the fuel subsidy removal is for a good course.

He expressed optimism that Governor Yahaya Bello’s administration is committed to providing succour to his people.

In the same vein the majority leader of the house Suleiman Abdulrazaq moved a motion calling on governor Yahaya Bello to set up a monitoring committee for the distribution of Federal Government palliatives. He declared ‘’we want to see how we want to engage the executive arm of government to make sure relevant committee is set up, that is going to involve all relevant stakeholders including the media and the civil society to make sure any palliative will get to the people”

The motion was favorably adopted by members as they expressed themselves one after the other on reasons the government would have to act without delay.

On the quest to fast track the state’s development, according to the speaker the House is ready to engage in unrelenting oversight functions on each department of the state. To this effect, no fewer than 25 committees alongside their chairmen and vice chairmen positioned to cover all departments were inaugurated to commence work with immediate effect.

At the end of the plenary, the House suspended Mr. William Iko-Ojo chairman Ibaji Local government area for misappropriation of funds up to the sum of #536,137,064.9k, for gross misconduct, security breach and abuse of office. A committee will begin investigation, while the vice chairman will be in charge until the conclusion of investigations.
