The Taipei Trade Office in Nigeria, in partnership with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), has provided financial empowerment to victims of human rights violations in Nigeria.

Eleven survivors received a total of ₦1,000,000 marking a significant step in promoting dignity, recovery, and socio-economic inclusion.

At a ceremony in Abuja, the Nigerian capital, the Head of Mission at the Taipei Trade Office, Mr. Andy Yih-Ping Liu, emphasized Taiwan’s commitment to human rights and socio-economic development.

Nine beneficiaries received ₦100,000 each, while two others received ₦50,000 to support their reintegration into society and help restore their livelihoods.

The Executive Secretary of the NHRC, Dr. Tony Ojukwu, OFR, SAN, praised the gesture as a shining example of how international partnerships can deliver tangible impact.

Ojukwu reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to standing with survivors of human rights abuses, noting that the Commission shares in their pain and is always ready to provide support.

Civil society organizations also rallied behind the initiative.

Dr. (Mrs) Ifeoma Uche Agu of the Thelma Lion Foundation contributed an additional ₦100,000, while the Dorothy Njemanze Foundation pledged capacity-building training. WOTCLEF, a prominent anti-trafficking group, offered to provide mental health support to the beneficiaries.

The event underscored the growing role of grassroots and international partnerships in addressing human rights challenges in Nigeria.
