Terry Tha Rapman on his journey in the music industry
Terry Terhemba Madaki, an award winning hiphop artist popularly known as Terry tha rapper, recently reminisced about his journey in the Nigerian hiphop/rap scene.
In an interview with Voice of Nigeria, Terry tha rapman stated: “we started hiphop when hiphop wasn’t that fashionable in Nigerian, and I’m glad that I still stayed relevant enough to still be celebrated today.”
Terry started rapping in 1991, he’s noted to have been in the rap scene for about 20 years, he has dropped quite a number of hit albums and hit songs that have earned him the spot as an OG in the Nigerian music industry.
Asides his hit singles, Terry has also had collaborations with some of the biggest names in the Nigerian music industry.
The 2012 hit song “bother you” by 2baba saw him as a featured artist, his long awaited collaboration with M.I Abaga got him yet another feature on the track ‘FTW’, the rap legend has also been featured by other artists such as Skales, Modenine, Bella Alubo, and so on.
When asked about the inspiration behind his lyrics, the rapper stated that: “70 percent of my lyrics are actually about my main self, for me, I don’t go into the studio to record a hit song, I just go in there and I record from how I feel, sometimes it comes from real experiences.”
Terry’s hit songs include Na Beans, Boyz are not smiling, Joe spazm, zombie, and so many others, his hit song; Sample, earned him a Headies award for best rap single in a music category.
His new song ‘dankwali dropped recently on April 22.
