The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) has reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing support for tertiary institutions in Kwara State, North-Central Nigeria.

During a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, the Executive Secretary of TETfund, Arc. Sonny Echono underscored this commitment in discussions with Kwara state governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq.

Echono not only reiterated TETfund’s commitment to bolstering interventions but also expressed a proactive stance in assisting the state in its aspiration to elevate certain colleges of education to the status of universities.

“Kwara has been very useful to the country in providing institutions that train teachers from the basic level of education. On our end, we have introduced a new intervention where we try to upgrade security facilities in our beneficiary institutions,” he said.

During his address, Kwara state governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, commended the significant contributions of TETfund and encouraged the organization to intensify its efforts in further enhancing the education sector within the state.

“This visit is to say you are doing a good job and on behalf of the people and government of Kwara state, we say thank you for the job you have done and we appreciate you,” he said.

He highlighted the challenges faced by tertiary institutions in Kwara State and requested the assistance of TETFund in converting their Colleges of Education to Universities of Education.

“In Kwara, we are trying to convert all our colleges of education to universities so we need your assistance to do that. We have a challenge of security, water sanitation, and all that but I think those are challenges we can work together to mitigate,” he added.

While commending the security architecture of Kwara state in ensuring that schools are secure, he said, “If you go across Nigeria today, you will realise that most of our schools are not fenced. In Kwara, we are doing the safe school project where at the local government level we are putting up an early warning system. We are constantly checking those coming into our communities and Kwara is one of the safest states in Nigeria.”
