U.S to assist Nigeria fight insurgency

The U.S government has expressed its willingness and determination to support Nigeria in the fight against insecurity in the country.
U.S Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard disclosed this during a meeting with Nigeria’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
In a statement by the Special Assistant to the Minister on Media and Public Relations, Jubrilu Umar Gwandu, the meeting also deliberated on the need for a consensus building among Executive, Legislature and Judiciary as part of ways to address security challenges in Nigeria.
 
According to the statement, the meeting also harped on the need for effective partnership between the two countries to ensure safe, secure and prosperous Nigeria.
 
“The two nations laws are meant to achieve collective peace among people and governance is about improving the welfare of the majority of the people and maintaining that holistic approach is needed in striking a balance between public interest and rights of individual citizens” the statement read in part.
Mr. Malami also commended the U.S government for ensuring the repatriation of looted funds and extradition of people involved in terrorism financing back to the country to fair trial.
The meeting was the hallmark of a bilateral discussion between the U.S and the Nigerian government.
