The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, has commended the Gombe State Government for its decisive and strategic actions in reducing the number of out-of-school children across the state.
In a statement posted on its verified Facebook page, UNICEF praised the state’s recent adoption of the National Framework on Out-of-School Children, calling it a crucial step towards ensuring that every child in Gombe has access to quality education.
“Kudos to Gombe State! The government has adopted the National Framework on Out-of-School Children. This will reduce the number of out-of-school children in Gombe and ensure every child gets access to quality education,” UNICEF stated.
The commendation follows the formal signing of a comprehensive Framework of Action by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, during a strategic high-level engagement with UNICEF’s Chief of Bauchi Field Office, Dr. Nuzhat Rafique, in Gombe.
Jointly developed by the Gombe State Government and UNICEF, the framework aims to address the root causes behind the high number of out-of-school children.
It proposes a holistic approach focused on political will, the adoption of proven best practices, enhanced community accountability, and leveraging technology and innovation to expand learning opportunities.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Governor Yahaya reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive education and systemic reform.
He emphasised that no child in Gombe should be left behind, regardless of their background or circumstance.
Dr. Rafique described the development as a landmark moment, noting that Gombe is now setting the pace among Nigerian states in the battle against educational exclusion.
She also highlighted that the move further cements the state’s collaboration with UNICEF in advancing impactful and sustainable social development.
