USAID Rewards Journalists For Health Reportage
The USAID-Integrated Health Programme, USAID IHP has issued certificates of recognition to Journalists
for Public Health and Development Initiative (J4PD) in Bauchi State.
The state’s IHP Director, Dr Alhassan Siaka, made this known at a meeting with Bauchi health personnel on Tuesday.
Dr Siaka said “the journalists were rewarded for their consistent reportage of Reproductive Maternal Newborn and Child Health plus Nutrition and Malaria (RMNCH+NM) issues.”
He stressed that members of J4PD gave visibility to reproductive, maternal and newborn issues through their reportage.
Dr Siaka said “USAID IHP acknowledges the support it received from J4PD, which is why it decided to issue certificate of recognition.
“USAID IHP also recognised some state partners, staff and community members who excelled in their various assignments.”
Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, the Executive Chairman, Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, described the group as “a reliable media partner that has continued to amplify the voices of people on public health.”
“Members of this group have given us accurate coverage, information on myths and misconceptions during outbreaks and
beyond,” he said.
Ms Elizabeth Carr, J4PD’s state Coordinator, thanked USAID IHP for the recognition.
She said that the group, a civil society organisation, reports developmental issues around public health.
Carr pledged to always partner stakeholders in the development of RMNCH+NM in the state.
The meeting, organised quarterly by USAID-IHP, is to discuss health issues with relevant stakeholders.
