VC calls for holistic efforts to check inflow, usage of illicit drugs

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor AbdulKareem Age Sulyman has called for holistic efforts and control mechanism to check the inflow and usage of illicit drugs in Nigeria.This, he said, would go a long way to curb the ravaging security challenges bedeviling the nation.

Professor AbdulKareem made the call,while hosting members of the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists and the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations Practitioners in the state on iftar (Breaking of Ramadan fast) at his official quarters in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital North Central Nigeria.

The Vice Chancellor, noted that some Nigerians particularly youths are into drug abuses, which according to him, is part of the major problems presently confronting the nation .

Professor AbdulKareem who expressed displeasure over the high rate of kidnapping in the country, pointed out that the act is creating fears and causing psychological damage to most Nigerians.

He, however, disclosed that the university has strengthened it’s security across all its campuses.

The Vice Chancellor then enjoined all tiers of government and other stakeholders to rise to the challenge, to salvage the nation from her current travails.

On his achievements in the last one year, Professor AbdulKareem disclosed that 61 staff were promoted to the rank of professor, while 62 to the rank of readers.

He added that more structures were completed to improve teaching and learning, pointing out that plans are underway to construct road networks to link some faculties together.
