Accreditation and voting exercise has begun in some parts of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital with reports of malfunction of the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAs) machine.
In most of the Local Government Areas (LGAs), the process began late due to the absence of officials in some polling units, and in other places, there was a delay in the distribution of election materials.
As of 10.00 am local time in Lamisla Jambamari ward, Shettimari 001, in Maiduguri where the Vice Presidential candidate of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), is casting his vote, accreditation and voting was yet, to begin with no INEC officials on the ground.
In the Madinatu II polling unit at Jere LGA where the officials and materials were on the ground, with a massive turnout of voters, the BVAs machine failed to work.
The Assistant Presiding officer of the unit, Amina Abdullahi said “only one person was able to be accredited but the machine is being fixed.”
She assured that everyone in the unit will cast their vote as they will be on the ground until the last vote is cast.
