Abdussalam Abdulkarim Zaura, a first timer, has won the All Progressives Congress- APC, Kano Central Senatorial district ticket for for the 2023 Elections.
The Kano Central Senatorial district is the largest in Nigeria by population.
The Returning Officer of the APC Kano Central Senatorial primary election, Senator Tijjani Kaura, announcing the result of the election held at the Sani Abacha indoor stadium, Kano said “Zaura emerged the winner after polling 758 votes, beating his only rival, Sen. Bashir Garba Lado, who polled 77.”
He said the total number of voters for the election was 855 and the same figure was accredited but 836 votes were cast with 1 invalid vote, bringing the total valid votes 835.
“AA Zaura, having certified the requirements of law and scoring the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner,” said the Returning Officer.
The election had 3 aspirants but Barrister Isma’il Ahmad withdrew his aspiration at the commencement of the election narrowing the contest to the 2 contenders.
The APC Kano Central senatorial district flagbear will face incumbent senator Ibrahim Shekarau, a former governor of Kano state and minister of education, who recently defected from the ruling APC to the NNPP.
Zaura, a philanthropist, who was born in the village of Zaura Babba of Ungoggo Local, was born in 1977, is contesting for senator for the first time after losing the gubernatorial election to governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in 2019.
