Zamfara State Distributes Inputs To Farmers
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, North-West, Nigeria, has taken a step towards bolstering the agricultural sector and alleviating rural poverty by distributing farm inputs and agricultural assets to farmers in Bungudu and Maru Local Government Areas, LGAs.
This initiative, part of the ongoing COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus programme sponsored by FADAMA III, aims to boost farmers’ productivity and improve livelihoods.
Governor Lawal, while flagging off the distribution in Bungudu, “lauded the area’s legendary agricultural contributions and emphasized the government’s commitment to empowering its industrious farming communities.”
He expressed confidence that the programme will significantly enhance productivity, paving the way for poverty reduction and economic diversification through agro-allied projects like fisheries, poultry, and livestock fattening.
In Maru LGA, the Governor highlighted the program’s potential to combat malaria through innovative methods like tilapia fish rearing, while generating income for beneficiaries and improving their quality of life.
He further “announced plans for earth dam rehabilitation in the 2024 budget, aiming to create employment opportunities for over 40,000 farmers and increase food security for over two million people annually.”
With over 2,000 farmers benefiting Bungudu and Maru alone, this initiative marks a significant step towards agricultural revitalization in Zamfara State.
Governor Lawal’s commitment to providing vital inputs, coupled with plans for infrastructure development, offers promising prospects for increased food production, economic growth, and improved living standards for the farming communities.
