Gains persist on Nigerian equities market

The equities market recorded another day of gains on the second trading day of the week on Thursday as the market closed with a benchmark index of 1.42 percent.

The all-share index rose by 1.42 percent or  709.54 basis points to close at 50,835.95 points as against 50,126.41 on Wednesday just as the market capitalisation appreciated by N383 billion to close at N27,406 trillion compared with N27,023 trillion on Wednesday.

The market sentiment for the day also closed positives recording 32 gainers as against 22 losers.

McNichols led the gainers’ table for the day with a gain of N0.07k and a closing price of N0.77k.It was followed by Guiness Nigeria with a gain of N10.00 and a closing price of N110.00 and Nigerian Breweries gained N6.25k to close at N69.05k.

On the losing side were Transcorp Hotels which lost 0.45k to close at N4.50k , followed by Multiverse Mining and Exploration with N0.02k loss and a closing price of N0.21k and Mutual Benefits Assurance with a loss of N0.02k loss to close at N0.24k

FCMB Group had the highest volume of 139 million traded shares on Thursday and it was followed by Zenith bank with 29.4 million traded shares.

At the end of the day’s trading, a total of 462.59 million shares worth N8.31 billion were traded in 6,801 deals.
