Fresh from their triumphant outing at the 2026 ICC T20 Africa Sub-Regional Qualifiers C, Nigeria’s senior male cricket team, the Yellow Greens, have extended their winning streak at the ILCT20 Continent Cup in Rwanda. The team has recorded two consecutive victories, defeating hosts Rwanda and Botswana in thrilling matches.
Nigeria vs. Rwanda: A Strong Start
In their opening match on Wednesday, the Yellow Greens secured a convincing six-wicket victory over Rwanda via the DLS method, setting the tone for their tournament campaign.
A Thrilling Triumph Against Botswana
On Thursday, the team outperformed Botswana at the Gahanga Cricket Oval with a 29-run win. Key performances came from captain Sylvester Okpe and Olayinka Olaleye, who both scored 45 runs each. Player of the Match, Danladi Isaac, contributed an impressive 28 runs off 19 balls and claimed two wickets during Botswana’s innings. Peter Aho’s three wickets and Ridwan Abdulkareem’s crucial dismissal ensured Botswana was restricted to 156 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs.
Despite Botswana’s decision to bowl first, Nigeria capitalized by posting a solid total of 185 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs.
What’s Next for the Yellow Greens?
The Yellow Greens are set to face Uganda today (Friday) as they aim to continue their unbeaten run. The tournament features four teams playing against each other three times, with the top two advancing to the final on Saturday.
With their current form, Nigeria is well-positioned to contend for the title.
