The Super Falcons of Nigeria are through to the second round of the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualification series despite a disappointing 1-0 loss to the Black Queens of Ghana at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, winning 2-1 on aggregate against their hosts.
Last Wednesday, the Super Falcons had gained a clinical 2-0 first leg win over their West African rivals, thanks to a first half brace from Linkopings striker Uchenna Kanu at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos.
Princella Adubea scored Ghana’s goal midway into the second half after the Super Falcons switched off during an attack. Team captain, Asisat Oshoala missed an opportunity to level the scores moment later.
The Black Queens launched several attacks but could not get the vital goal that would have tied the fixture and taken both sides to a penalty shootout.

Both teams finished with 10 players after Ghana’s captain Portia Boakye was dismissed for a second bookable offence, while Nigeria’s left-back Glory Ogbonna was sent off by Ivorian referee Zomadre Sonia Kore minutes later.
The Super Falcons advanced to the final round where they play the Lady Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire, in February 2022.
