The Great Independence Hall Alumni Association (GIHAA) will on Tuesday commission a new public address system and unveil its redesigned alumni logo at the University of Ibadan’s Great Independence Hall.
Founded in 1961, the hall—popularly known as Indy Hall—is one of the university’s oldest residential halls and remains a symbol of its academic and communal heritage.
The President of GIHAA, Omotola Ifafore, in a statement, said the installation of the state-of-the-art PA system aims to improve hall-wide communication, enhance coordination of student activities, and strengthen the community spirit among residents.
The commissioning ceremony will be led by Professor Joseph Olutayo Yaniwura, a retired professor of statistics and one of the hall’s pioneer occupants. Organisers said his participation highlights the enduring involvement of past residents in the hall’s continued development.
The event will also feature the official unveiling of GIHAA’s new alumni logo, described as a symbol of unity, heritage, and progressive values.
President of GIHAA, Omotola Ifafore, said the event represents more than the launch of infrastructure or branding.
“This event is not only about the commissioning of a system or the launch of a logo—it’s about legacy, identity, and our collective responsibility to give back,” he said.
“We’re thrilled to contribute to the hall’s development and to deepen the connection among past and present occupants of Indy Hall,” he added.
