The Forum for Agricultural Commodities Association Presidents has commended the National Assembly for passing the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) Bill into law, and also appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for signing the Bill into law.

The commendation was made in a statement released on Wednesday by the Chairman of the association, Alhaji Sadiq Daware.

According to the statement, the bill was described as the bedrock for farmers, and it would allow farmers, including commodity associations, to have access to financial interventions without bureaucratic experiences with the banking system.

Deware said the approval of the NADF bill, has shown Buhari’s commitment to supporting Nigerian farmers and enhancing the agricultural sector.

“This intervention alone is a landmark achievement under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari and a legacy which farmers would never forget or take for granted”, he said.

Recall that on July 27, 2022, the upper and lower houses of the National Assembly approved the setting up of the National Agricultural Development Fund as a financial intervention institution to support strategic aspects of the sector’s development towards meeting up with the inadequate funding of the agricultural sector.

Also, President Buhari had earlier signed the bill seeking the establishment of the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) into an Act, which is contained in an official gazette of the Federal Republic of Nigeria published on October 30, 2022, with Number 192 and Volume 109 that was certified by the Clerks of the two houses.

With the Presidential approval, the setting up of NADF now has the legal backing to commence operation as attested to, by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Mohammad Mamood Abubakar, during the presentation of the Ministry’s scorecard on Monday in Abuja.
