The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare and professional development of soldiers.
Speaking at the Nigerian Army Day Celebration 2025 lecture in Kaduna, Oluyede emphasized the importance of the “Soldier First” concept in driving the Army’s transformation drive.
“This concept focuses on prioritising the training, equipping, and welfare of soldiers to enable them to carry out their duties effectively.
“It also underscores the importance of responsive leadership, effective administration, and merit-based promotions by prioritizing soldier welfare.”
He said the Army aims to boost morale, resilience, and collective effectiveness in fulfilling missions.
Highlighting some key initiatives aimed to be used in boosting the morale of the soldiers, the Chief of Army Staff disclosed that, they will promote leadership style where commanders prioritise the needs of their subordinates and mission above personal gain.
“Quality housing, healthcare, and family support systems will also be provided to enhance soldiers welfare as well as reviewing training curricula to reflect the requirements of today’s operating environment.
“Merit based promotions, commendations and awards will be established to encourage excellence, hard work and loyalty within the ranks.”
He explained that the Nigerian Army is committed to ensuring the security of the Nigerian people and preserving democracy while reaffirming the Army’s resolve to deny terrorists the opportunity to disrupt socio-cultural heritage or smear national sovereignty.
The Nigerian Army Day Celebration 2025 featured various activities, including lecture, military parade, equipment display and presentation of COAS commendation awards to deserving personnel.
The celebration was aimed at honor past and present officers and soldiers for their service to the nation.
