Italian international and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti will miss the Champions League quarter-final clash against Bayern Munich next week after testing positive to COVID-19 for the second time this season, the French champions announced.

Verratti,28, was diagnosed with the illness after the latest round of medical checks at the Parc des Princes stadium on Friday.

The Italian midfielder Verratti will also miss PSG’s top-of-the-table Ligue 1 clash with Lille on Saturday with both teams on 63 points.

“After the latest PCR Sars-Cov2 test, Marco Verratti is confirmed positive. He will isolate and be subject to appropriate health protocol,” PSG said in a statement.

Verratti will have to isolate for the next ten days, and cannot return to the squad until he records a negative test after that period.

This is the second time this year that Verratti has contracted COVID-19. He missed two Ligue 1 matches between the end of January and the start of February due to a positive virus test.
