The Oyo State House of Assembly has begun presenting the report of the 7-man panel set up by the Chief Judge, Justice Munta Abimbola, to investigate the Deputy Governor, Rauf Olaniyan.

They could not confirm when the report was submitted to the Assembly. Barring last-minute changes, they may impeach the Deputy Governor during Monday’s plenary.

Heavy security presence was observed at the House of Assembly complex, with many security patrol vans stationed at the entrance and strategically around the complex.

23 lawmakers of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are currently attending the plenary.

On Thursday, July 14, the Chief Judge inaugurated the 7-man panel.

It was gathered that the panel began its sitting immediately after it was inaugurated last week and sat all through the weekend.

The Deputy Governor was alarmed last Friday that he received an invitation letter to appear before the panel about 15 minutes before the time of the sitting.

A source hinted that the panel, against the announced House of Chiefs where it announced it would sit, held the sitting in a private facility within the House of Assembly complex.

They also gathered that if the impeachment of Olaniyan happened on Monday, a new deputy governor might be sworn in by Governor Seyi Makinde.
