The Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation has migrated to Solar energy as an alternative source of electricity supply for efficient Service delivery of Government plans.

The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, said this in Abuja, Nigeria, at the Commissioning of a 1 MegaWatt Solar PV Power Plant for alternative power supply at the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

She said that as the engine room for public administration, the Civil Service requires stable power to deliver on its mandate, foster economic growth, and ultimately serve the people.

Walson-Jack noted that, by integrating renewable energy into its operations, the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation is not only demonstrating environmental responsibility but also promoting innovation and efficiency within the Civil Service.

“The availability of clean, stable energy will enhance its capacity to work seamlessly, deploy digital solutions, and provide uninterrupted service to the Nigerian people”.

According to her, it also reflects its readiness to embrace the future, one powered by sustainability, resilience, and excellence.

The Head of Service said the Solar PV Power Plant is a testament to the nation’s broader vision of diversifying its energy mix and embracing cleaner, more sustainable sources of power.

“The Service is aware of the global drive toward renewable energy, necessitated by the urgent need to mitigate the effects of climate change and ensure a healthier environment for the future generations”.

She further narrated that, by commissioning the solar power facility, Nigeria is aligning with global best practices and reinforcing its position as a leader in green energy adoption on the African continent.

“With access to a more stable power supply, we can reduce operational costs associated with alternative energy sources such as generators and diesel procurement. The cost savings realized will be channelled towards improving infrastructure, capacity building for Civil Servants, and other critical areas that will enhance service delivery”.

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mamman Mahmud, said the move was not just symbolic, but strategic as it aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“This project is our commitment to our energy security, environmental sustainability, cost effectiveness, governance and efficient service delivery”.

He said by powering critical government infrastructure with Solar energy, the Ministry is leading by example and demonstrating by the availability of renewable energy in achieving universal access to electricity and environmental sustainability.

“The benefits of this programme, amongst others, are that it will reduce the cost of electricity from the grid, reduce operational cost by reducing diesel consumption. It’ll enhance productivity by eliminating downtime caused by power outages and lower Carbon emissions.”

The Managing Director, Truetech Global Investment, one of the consulting companies, Mr Ichie Omeje, said his contribution has helped mitigate the national power crisis, and he is proud to have played a part in shaping a sustainable future.

” Together with JRB Solar Investment Limited, we have deployed cutting-edge technology that meets global best practices in the execution of this project. I am profoundly honoured to stand before you today, as we mark yet another significant milestone in our nation’s journey towards a clean energy transition”.

As one of the leading indigenous renewable energy companies in Nigeria, Truetech Global Investment Services Limited has been at the forefront of the renewable energy space for over a decade.

“Today, we celebrate not only the completion of this project, but also the dawn of a new era in renewable energy for our country. This solar plant is designed to generate clean energy, reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, and contribute to a healthier environment.”

The Director, Huawei Digital Power Business, Mr Cruise Ni, said will continue to support the government of Nigeria and ensure that all equipment supplied by the company meets the global standard, as it has always done.

The project will serve as a model for other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, inspiring similar initiatives that harness the power of renewable energy across the nation
