First Lady Renews Health Insurance for Sickle Cell Warriors

The First Lady of Kwara State, North Central Nigeria, Mrs. Olufolake Abdulrazaq, has procured health insurance cover for more than 150 people living with Sickle cell disease. Similarly, the health insurance covers for survivors who have been under the scheme since last year were renewed and additional 50 were added onboard.

While presenting the health insurance cover for the beneficiaries through the Executive Secretary Kwara State Health Insurance Agency, Dr, Olubunmi Jetawo-Winter, Ambassador Abdulrazaq reiterated that Nigeria has the highest burden of Sickle Cell in the World.

 

She also stressed the need for the Nigeria Governors Wives Forum to make Sickle Cell Awareness and Advocacy a National program for the Forum.

The First Lady further stated that the social and economic burden the management of sickle cell poses on survivors and families are enormous and with the continued  insurance cover, Sickle Cell Warriors  are receiving basic care and management to mitigate the pains and sufferings.

 

The Executive Secretary of the agency while appreciating the continued moral and financial support from the First Lady, assured her that the Agency, the Sickle Cell Warriors and other Stakeholders have put up mechanism for the warriors to access the care and management provided through the Health Insurance cover provided by Ambassador Abdulrazaq.

 

Highlight of the meeting was the presentation of cheque by Ambassador  Olufolake Abdulrazaq to the the Executive Secretary, Dr Olubunmi.
