Abdullahi said that the ward was formally handed over to the AKTH Chief Medical Director, Prof. Abdurrahman Sheshe at a ceremony in Kano. She quoted Sheshe as saying that the new ward would compliment the existing one.
“The ideal thing is that when a woman gave birth in a hospital she supposed to stay in the hospital and rest for at least 24 hours before she is discharged home, this is to enable the clinicians/ doctors ruled out the unforseen problems that may occur after the delivery. But due to lack of enough bed space in the hospital some women were even discharged right from labor ward inorder to accommodate other patients,” he said.
Presenting the ward, Alhaji Yusuf Dayyabu, an official of the foundation, said that the gesture was to immortalise his late father who spent most of his life in the South East.
