Group Donates Health Kits To Women, Adolescents In Anambra State.

Family Health International, a group under the Global Fund organization dedicated to HIV/AIDs prevention, treatment, care and support services for adults and children within a strengthened health care delivery system has donated health kits to Anambra state government for adolescents and women in the state. This took place at the office of the Commissioner for women and social welfare Anambra state, Honourable Ify Obinabo where the team visited and made the delivery.

Speaking before presenting the items, the Senior Program Officer | Global Fund – National Aligned HIV/AIDS Initiative Project, Mr Henry Udenenwu noted that Nigeria as a country is both donor and recipient of the Global Fund explaining that it is the grant that is implemented that covers the scope of general population including young women and children.

In her paper presentation, Leah Umeokeke explained that the aim of the initiative is to reduce the risk of contracting HIV/AIDS among adolescents and also bring to the barest minimum the transmission of sexually Transmitted Infections/Diseases.

 

Responding, the state’s Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, Honourable Obinabo appreciated them for their support and assured of more collaboration with the Global Fund. Obinabo urged the team to also organize a seminar for social workers in the different local government areas of the state in order to help the Sexual and Gender Based Violence response team in their delivery of duty.

The intervention which is done in stages is targeted at addressing some of the risk factors dominant in young ones such as biological, behavioral and structural factors. Items donated were HIV self test kits, packs of male condoms, Umbrellas, Packs of Sanitary Pads and Female condoms.

 

The commissioner appreciated the officials on behalf of the state government and promised to ensure safe and prompt delivery of the items to the appropriate quarters.
