In search for the conduct of more credible, transparent, free and fair elections in Nigeria, the country’s electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has commenced the review of the conduct of the 2023 General Election.

The review which the commission involved the election stakeholders was to enable the commission ex-ray its activities before, during and after the conduct of the 2023 elections with the view to fine tune its activities towards better elections in the country.

Speaking at the meeting with election officials and transport unions in Abuja, the INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, remarked that the review became imperative as the commission is ever committed in ensuring that conduct of elections in Nigeria stands the reference point before the international community.

“As we carry on with the review of the 2023 General Election, we expect the stakeholders will make positive contribution that will help us perform better in future election,” he said.

Professor Yakubu said that there was no doubt that the Commission encountered some challenges during the elections which necessitates the need for the meeting.

“We will hear the experience of our field, transport unions and other stakeholders during the process of the elections and get them documented and possibly pick relevant advises,” he added.

He however commended the resilience displayed by both the election officials and the stakeholders during the elections and called for more support especially as the Bayelsa, Kogi and Imo States governorship elections schedule for November draws nearer.
