The leadership of the Nigerian House of Representatives has met with the country”s Service Chiefs over the worsening security situation in the country.

The over five hour meeting held behind closed doors, was to proffer solutions to the issue, following attacks on Kaduna International  Airport and Abuja-Kaduna Train.

At the beginning of the meeting before it went into closed doors, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila said “All hands must be on deck in making Nigeria Safe and Secure.”

Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, Mr Gbajabiamila said the meeting was a legislative intervention, aimed at finding lasting solution to insecurity, and that the matters discussed are not for public consumption.

We had an extensive deliberation, the issues we discussed there are defence matters, they are not for public consumption.

“But I can assure you, it was a lot of collaboration, a lot of ideas came together in terms of how security agents can work together in one voice, as opposed to different voices.

He revealed that they discussed about the all-important issue of whether or not there are elements within the military—the issue of moles like some people have stated.

According to the speaker, issues of  training and retraining as well as allowances were also discussed

The meeting was convened following a unanimous adoption of a motion to that effect last week at a plenary session.

However, the meeting was rescheduled due to inability of the service chiefs to appear, instead they sent representatives who were turned back by the Deputy Speaker, Ahmed Idris Wase.

Wase who chaired the meeting last week expressed concerns over the inability of the Heads of the Security Agencies to attend which some lawmakers described it as disregard to the legislature as an institution.

Those in attendance were the Chiefs of Defence Staff, Air Staff, representative of the Chief of Army Staff, Inspector General of Police, DG DSS among others.
