The Hassy’s Haven Foundation, a Non-governmental organization dedicated to supporting female cancer patients, has provided financial support to 55 indigent cancer patients, orphans and widows, in Kaduna to mark its first anniversary.

The foundation was set-up in memory of the late journalist Hassana Yakubu, which commemorated the milestone by extending medical and financial assistance to female cancer patients battling the disease without adequate resources.

Since its inception on February 24, 2024, Hassy’s Haven Foundation has made significant strides including: 90% completion of a skill acquisition center to empower vulnerable women, medical outreach at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), supporting 25 indigent female cancer patients, financial assistance for 30 cancer patients at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, distributed during the anniversary event on February 24, 2025, awareness campaigns and cancer health talks to mark World Cancer Day, over 200 female cancer patients supported with medical aid, hundreds of free cancer screenings and community awareness programs conducted across rural areas, empowerment programs for orphans and widows to improve their livelihoods.

Speaking at the anniversary event, Founder Hussaina Yakubu reaffirmed the foundation’s dedication to honoring her late twin sister, Hassana Yakubu, who succumbed to cancer after an eight-year battle.

According to her, “Hassy’s Haven Foundation was born out of my sister’s struggle and resilience. Her dream was to see more women win the fight against cancer, and we are committed to keeping that dream alive.”

She however urged corporate organizations, individuals, and government agencies to collaborate in strengthening cancer care and support systems for underprivileged patients.

“As part of the anniversary outreach, the newly supported 30 cancer patients received ₦20,000 each to assist with treatment and essential medications, along with emotional support from medical professionals and volunteers.”

Prof. Abubakar Tabari, Medical Director of Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, represented by Dr. Garba Muhammad, commended the foundation for its unwavering commitment to cancer awareness and patient support.

Prof. Sunday Adewuyi, Chairman, Nigeria Cancer Society (Kaduna Chapter) and a Trustee of the Foundation, emphasized the need for early cancer detection and regular medical check-ups.
