The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property as Nigeria continues to confront rising security challenges in some parts of the country.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf stated this in Kano during a large-scale special prayer session organised to seek divine intervention for peace and stability, following recent bandit attacks spilling into the state from neighbouring Katsina.

Over 4,000 Islamic scholars, Qur’anic reciters, Imams, traditional rulers, and government officials gathered at Government House, Kano, to offer prayers for security agencies and the safety of citizens as part of a broader effort to reinforce the fight against criminality in Nigeria.

Kano, one of Nigeria’s most populous and commercially significant states, has recently recorded pockets of bandit attacks in its northern district, where at least 15 people were abducted and a woman killed.

The government is stemming any form of incursions escalating and it’s addressing the tide decisively.

Governor Yusuf emphasised that “criminal activities respect no political, ethnic, or religious boundaries, urging citizens and stakeholders nationwide to unite against insecurity.”

He noted that Kano has historically been a haven of peace and vowed that his administration would continue to combine security operations with spiritual interventions to safeguard the state.

The Governor also hailed the dedication of security agencies, assuring continued cooperation between the government and the armed forces to curb banditry and other violent crimes.

The Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, who attended the gathering, praised the initiative and called for national solidarity in the quest for lasting peace.

He also commended recent visits by the Governor and security chiefs to affected communities, describing them as a reassuring step.

Prominent Islamic scholars from various sects also lend their voices, advocating regular prayers and community involvement as complementary tools in combating insecurity across the country.

As insecurity remains a pressing national concern, Kano’s approach reflects growing calls for a combined spiritual and operational strategy to restore safety, unity, and confidence among Nigerians.
