Nigerian Minister of Labour and employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, has distributed food items to the elderlies, widows and the All Progressives Congress (APC) faithful from the 21 Local Government Areas of Anambra State.
The items distributed included 5000 bags of rice, 5000 bags of cassava grains, several cartons of tomatoes and tubers of yams.
The elderlies, especially the octogenarians also received health benefits at the occasion.
Ngige said the war between Ukraine and Russia had put the world, including Nigeria, in an economic dilemma hence the intervention by the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to keep the masses out of hunger and starvation.
The distribution of food items followed Federal Government’s directive to Ministers to cushion the effects of economic downturn on the masses across the country.

He said, “With this, we are detaching hunger in the land. I have told the widows to form cooperatives so that we can assist them to grow their businesses and make them entrepreneurs.”
The Minister said there was a health scheme he put up in his community to take care of and maintain the elderly and indigent people in the area.
Some of the beneficiaries of the Federal Government’s largesse described the Buhari-led government as a working progress, calling on successive governments to build on the successes of the incumbent administration.
Participants at the occasion were asked to obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards in readiness for this year’s general elections.
The event took place at St Mary’s Church field, Alor in the Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.
