The Federal Fire Service, Lagos State Command (Zone F), has decorated about one thousand, six hundred and ninety-five (1,695) personnel.

Speaking during the decoration ceremony in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, the Assistant Controller-General of the zone, Chika Njoku, said their focus is on safeguarding lives and properties as climate-related incidents continue to rise in Nigeria.

The Fire Service boss advised the officers, who were promoted to various ranks, to show more commitment to their work.

“Though promotion is a reward of hard work, it is also an added responsibility.

Don’t say because you’re promoted now, your job has reduced. You need to be committed and take your job serious. Now that you have climbed to this rank, make sure that you discharge your duty professionally,” he advised.

Assessing the year 2023, Mr Njoku affirmed that the general public’s level of adherence to instructions as regards fire safety had improved due to increased sensitization, promising to do more in 2024.

“Fire calls have reduced because we have increased in our sensitization duties.
People are now adhering to the instructions we give to them as regards fire safety.
With the newly promoted officers, we have renewed hope to serve better next year,” he added.

Nwabueze Chukwuma, one of the newly promoted officers, promised on behalf of other officers to put more effort into their work.

He thanked the management for finding them worthy.
