Money Laundering: Appeal Court upholds conviction of former Pension boss

The Court of Appeal in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital has upheld the conviction of former chairperson of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina.

The appellate court upheld the sentence of Maina to 8 years for money laundering of about N2.1 billion

Justice Elfreda Williams-Daudua who led the three-member panel delivered the judgment and unanimously affirmed the judgement by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja delivered on November 8, 2021, which sentenced Maina to 8 years in prison.

Justice Williams-Daudu affirmed the various interlocutory rulings delivered during the trial at the Federal High Court, which Maina appealed against.

The judge held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
